Plovers or Masked Lapwings
Vanellus Miles

These photos were not taken on Middle Path.

Masked Lapwing

A Masked Lapwing - commonly known as a plover - checks the camera.

These birds do not make nests - they merely seem to find a dent in the ground and, irrespective of nearby traffic, start a family.

Notable for their raucous screeching and divebombing during the breeding season, they are frequently heard screeching their outrage and some innocent invasion of their space.

This one is just settling on the clutch - one of the eggs is clearly visible.
