Wildlife: Forest & Sacred Kingfishers

Kingfishers at Middle Path

Forest Kingfisher, Todiramphus incinctus

This young Forest Kingfisher is recovering after attempting to take a short-cut through the temple and encountering glass at high speed.

This happens with a lot of young birds and they generally recover well with some Reiki and nurturing, after which they are content to sit on our fingers for up to an hour or so until they realise that they need to return to the wild.

After an hour's Reiki and rescue remedy - our standard approach to birds who have been stunned, the Kingfisher showed no desire to depart and spent another hour or so on our verandah eyeing us as if expecting us to provide food and other necessities.

obviously not suited to perching on a carpet

Sacred Kingfisher, Todiramphus sanctus

A Sacred Kingfisher perched just outside one of our office windows.

It is a fair distance to the water and after some research we discovered that this Kingfisher is a dry land hunter favouring large insects and small reptiles.

I know theres some food around here
